Another severe injury , a stress fracture in her left lower leg kept her out of play for more than 2 months.






Played 10 SENIOR ITF INTERNATIONAL tournaments and out of the 10 she WON 5 singles titles, 3 of them in 3 consecutive weeks and 5 doubles titles. She had a 16 match singles winning streak.


Out of these 10 tournaments she made 2 more FINALS in singles and 1 doubles final.


One of these titles was the IRISH OPEN where she won both singles and doubles.


Another of these titles was the Challenger Masters in Kyoto, Japan.


Surina moved her WTA ranking up to 198 on the singles and 210 in doubles in her first year on the tour.


Because of her right wrist she only started her year 1997 in June and ended it in October 1997 because of a stress fracture in both lower legs.







Reached a career high WTA RANKING of 116 in July in singles.

Had 2 Right Shoulder Operations and a Left Wrist Operation which kept her out of Tennis for the whole year.






After being out of tennis for almost 15 Months she came back and played Indian Wells and with Partner Nannie De Villiers Defeated Amanda Coetzer and Lori Mcniel


Got her Doubles Ranking back to 220 but had to stop again due to another operation, this time in the Right ankle

Because of a stress fracture earlier the year 2006 in left foot and a working holiday visa which ran out, I had to go back to South Africa for about 4 months. The Sutton Junior Tennis Centre helped me get my 5 yr work permit.


Because I had a lot of expenses as a result of obtaining my visa and not being able to earn any money for the first 6 months of the year, I decided to fully commit myself to coaching from July ’06 until April 2007
